Micro Mgmt Newsletter #9: What We Can Learn From Emily in Paris—Lessons in Real Life 📺💼✨
Hi Micro Mgmt Fam!
Welcome back to another edition of the Micro Mgmt newsletter, and this one’s a little bit special (and personal)! 💌
Today, we’re talking about the glitzy world of Emily in Paris and how the show’s themes can actually be applied to real life. Yes, it’s full of glamour, questionable fashion choices, and Parisian clichés, but hidden beneath the croissants and couture are some serious lessons that can help us navigate the world of work, branding, and self-discovery.
And funny enough, this topic was inspired by my lovely mother-in-law, Nicole. She absolutely adores Emily in Paris—her love for the show gave me the idea to break down some of the show’s key takeaways. So, grab your beret and let’s dive into what Emily’s Parisian adventure can teach us!💄✨

1. Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone
One of the biggest lessons from Emily in Paris is the importance of taking risks and stepping outside of your comfort zone. Emily is thrown into a foreign country with a language she doesn’t understand and a culture she isn’t familiar with, yet she dives in headfirst, confident in her ability to figure it out as she goes.
In real life, this is crucial whether you’re a content creator, influencer, or entrepreneur. You might feel out of place or intimidated when approaching new opportunities, but growth comes from trying new things. Don’t be afraid to take that leap of faith—you never know what doors it could open.
2. Building a Personal Brand with Confidence
Emily is all about branding—not just for her clients, but for herself. She has a clear personal style, a distinct voice on social media, and she uses every opportunity to showcase her unique perspective.
In today’s world, especially in the social media and influencer space, building a personal brand is key. You don’t have to be in Paris to do it! Whether it’s your niche, your aesthetic, or your message, having a clear identity and being consistent with it is what draws people in. Just like Emily, make sure your brand reflects who you are and what you stand for.

Emily often finds herself clashing with her French colleagues, but instead of retreating, she learns to navigate these cultural differences with (mostly) grace and humour.
As content creators or influencers, we may not be navigating Parisian office politics, but we do work with different brands, creators, and audiences that come from all walks of life. Adaptability and understanding are key. Whether you’re working with an international brand or a new audience, take the time to understand their culture, values, and preferences. Being adaptable can help you build stronger, more meaningful connections.
4. The Power of Networking and Collaboration
If there’s one thing Emily does well, it’s networking. She’s constantly meeting new people, attending events, and making connections that push her career forward.
Networking and collaboration are just as important in the influencer and content creation world. Connecting with other creators, brands, or industry professionals can elevate your platform. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people—whether it’s for advice, a partnership, or simply to say hi. It’s often these connections that lead to the most exciting opportunities.
5. Authenticity Wins Every Time
Emily may come across as a little naive, but her biggest strength is that she remains unapologetically herself. She doesn’t try to conform to the French way of doing things—instead, she brings her own perspective to the table, and that’s what ultimately makes her stand out.
As a creator or brand builder, authenticity is everything. Your audience can tell when you’re being genuine, and that’s what makes them stick around. Whether you’re creating content or collaborating with brands, always stay true to who you are. Your authenticity is your superpower.

Final Thoughts 💬
So, while Emily in Paris might be full of glitz and drama, it’s also packed with real-life lessons for all of us. From stepping out of your comfort zone to building your personal brand and networking with intention, there’s so much we can learn from Emily’s (often chaotic) Parisian journey.
A big shoutout to my mother-in-law Nicole for inspiring this newsletter. Her love for Emily in Paris got me thinking about how we can take those Hollywood-style themes and apply them to our real-world grind. Thank you, Nicole! 💕
